The correct temperature of the heating plate should not be measured with a thermometer. Instead, observe the behaviour of the chicks. Unlike a heat lamp, the heating plate does not glow or heat the entire surrounding area. Only the underside of the heating plate becomes warm. This makes it particularly important to adjust the height of the heating plate correctly. The temperature and height are correct when most of the chicks are lying quietly underneath the plate without excessive chirping, while a smaller number of chicks are standing underneath or close to the edge of the plate.
A separate cover for the heating plate is available. The cover helps keep the heating plate clean and prevents chicks from jumping onto the top of the plate. Thanks to its specially designed shape, chicks attempting to climb onto the heating plate slide safely back down.
