Bombers 2½ -ring Happy Tongue Straight. The Happy Tongue Straight is a solid mouth bit which is ported to relieve tongue pressure but is not curved. This makes is slightly stronger than the curved Happy Tongue. The Happy Tongue Straight suits a horse with a short mouth / smile. This is by far our most successful design – we recommend for all young horses and those that show tongue sensitive signs. The 4 available ports have been scaled according to each width. This ensures accurate fitting over the bars and eliminates the rocking movement which occurs when the port is too wide.

SOLID: The mouthpiece is fixed between cheek pieces, optionally offering tongue relief in the form of a port. When used in conjunction with a fixed cheekpiece it should fit tightly to eliminate and sideward movement.  

CHEEKPIECE - 2½ -Ring - A ring cheek piece introduces poll pressure as well as creating leverage on the mouthpiece, the 2½ Ring version is the softest out of the 3 or 4 ring alternatives as the ½ ring softens the leverage on the mouthpiece and poll. Recommended as an alternative to the conventional 3 or 4 ring bit. As the ½ ring lessens the leverage on the poll and mouthpiece. A backstrap in recommended. The cheekpiece is available in 2 sizes, standard (Ø78mm, height 130mm) and a slightly smaller model for a pony (Ø66mm, height 110mm). Supplied with a nylon curb strap.

Reins can be use two ways;
Bigger ring =  removes the poll pressure decreasing the mouthpiece leverage.
Lower side small ring =  Introduces poll pressure leveraging the mouthpiece. 

Overall effects of the bit
The bit consists of a mouthpiece inside the mouth and a cheekpiece acting outside the head. The overall effects of the bit should be mutually supportive and guiding aids for the horse, as the horse will not be able to understand the rider’s use of conflicting / mutually exclusive aids. When using stronger lever bit, the rider should be aware of and understand the operation of the bits and their effects. The unpleasant pressure or pain caused by the bit always causes resistance in the horse, like the so-called an escape reaction in which the rider loses contact or control of the horse. This type of loss of control of the horse usually only results in the choice of an even stronger bit, although the situation would usually require a softer alternative. 

Happy Tongue thickness for each width:
- Thickness 12/07mm, Width 90-105mm
- Thickness 12/08mm, Width 110-115mm
- Thickness 14/09mm, Width 120-130mm
- Thickness 16/10mm, Width 135-160mm

The tongue space of the bit is flattened and shaped so that it is thinner in the middle. The total height of the bit is 25mm.

BOMBERS SWEET IRON

Sweet Iron used in the manufacture of mouth pieces will oxidize when it comes into contact with moisture; this oxidation process encourages salivation which improves acceptance of the bit. This process changes the blue colour of the Bomber horse bit to a brownish grey. If not used for a while, any build- up may be removed with a scourer and wiped with a damp cloth.

A Bombers horse bit is entirely handcrafted, it takes about 1-2 weeks to make one bomber bit. All the component parts are welded, formed and ground by hand. The sweet iron after treatment, gives off a striking and attractive deep blue tint. The finishing touch: the size and brand name are stamped on the left-hand side of the horse bit.

The Bombers Lifetime Guarantee covers all stainless steel, sweet iron and brass products from manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product. Bombers will repair or replace at its discretion any manufacturing defect in these products free of charge. The Bombers Lifetime Guarantee does not cover damage caused by accident, improper care or cleaning, non-standard usage, negligence or unauthorised alterations. Bomber lifetime guarantee does also not cover some mouthpieces which can be chewed, those are for example; Cable, Leather, Flexible tubing and bomber blue. Those mouthpieces are not suitable for horses that chew.
