The laying nest does not have a back wall, but is intended to be attached to a wall. The housing has four mounting holes ready. The chicken likes to lay eggs in a dim and sheltered place with a soft bottom. It has been studied that chickens are willing to put in a lot of effort to find pleasing place. Favorite laying nest is a box with walls and a roof and almost dark inside. The bottom has to be couple inches of litter. Straw or dry hay, for example, can be used. You can use the same bedding that you also use on the chicken coops floor. At least one nest per four chickens is required. In the wild, chickens lay their eggs at the ground, but they also get used to using higher nesting places.
