A Natural Solution for Bedding-Based Animal Facilities
Keep flies under control – without chemicals
Parasitic wasps are an effective and completely biological way to control flies in bedding-based animal facilities. The method works in nature's own way: the wasps lay their eggs inside fly pupae, and their larvae feed on the developing fly before it has a chance to emerge from the pupa as an adult.
- 100% natural
- Safe for animals and humans
- No chemical pesticides
- Easy and effortless to use
In Europe, parasitic wasps are one of the most common fly control methods in bedding-based facilities, and in Finland they have been used successfully for decades.
How parasitic wasps control flies
The parasitic wasp is a small, harmless insect that searches for fly pupae in bedding and manure. It does not sting and does not disturb humans or animals.
When a parasitic wasp finds a fly pupa, it lays its eggs inside it. The larvae that hatch from the wasp's eggs feed on the developing fly and destroy it. The wasps develop inside the fly pupa, after which the newly multiplied wasps fly out to search for new fly pupae. This keeps the fly population under control before the flies have a chance to hatch.
The life cycle of a parasitic wasp is approximately 2–3 weeks at +25 °C.
The result is natural and continuous control without chemicals.
Fewer flies – a healthier animal facility
Excessive numbers of flies cause many problems:
- Stress and restlessness in animals
- Discomfort for workers
- Risk of disease spread
Parasitic wasps effectively reduce fly reproduction and help keep the animal facility healthier, calmer, and more pleasant.
Use is really easy
Getting started with parasitic wasps takes only a few minutes.
1. Automatic deliveries
Wasp shipments are delivered to the farm according to an agreed schedule.
2. Bring the bags to the animal facility
One bag is sufficient for approximately 100 m² of floor area.
3. Distribute the parasitic wasps
Open the bag and spread the wasps evenly over the bedding and manure surface.
4. The wasps do the work
The wasps search for fly pupae and begin the control process.
After that, the wasps take care of the work for you.
Note! Do not use chemical pesticides in the same space or section as the parasitic wasps.
Start control in good time
For best results, the use of parasitic wasps should begin early in the year (weeks 6–18) before the fly breeding season.
Deliveries are generally made 7–9 times per year depending on the size of the facility.
One bag contains thousands of wasps at various stages of development.
A safe and scientifically proven method
Parasitic wasp cultivation is thoroughly researched and regulated. The method poses no risks to humans, animals, or the environment.
Thanks to the use of parasitic wasps, chemical pesticides are no longer needed.
For slurry-based animal facilities, predatory flies are alternatively recommended, which work on the same biological principle.
